MJB: 'Stronger withEach Tear' album cover!

The one and only Mary J Blige whips out the style and sophistication for the cover of her upcoming album, "Stronger With Each Tear". Peep it below and let me know what you think!

It's all about the numbers!

For any artist, first week sales are incredibly important. Over the past two weeks there have been some major album releases and we now have a few of the results.

Kris Allen - Kris Allen: 80 000
50 Cent - Before I Self Destruct: 160 000
Leona Lewis - Echo: 67 000
John Mayer - Battle Studies: 285 000

With these results, Mayer managed to top the album charts for the second time in his career.

Next week's predictions
Susan Boyle – I Dreamed A Dream: 600 000
Adam Lambert – For Your Entertainment: 230 000
Lady GaGa – The Fame Monster: 200 000
Rihanna – R-Rated: 180 000
Shakira – She Wolf: 80 000

Who knew Boyle would be an album seller? If she pulls off these numbers, she'll have the biggest first week sales for the entire year! Glambert's antics seemed to have worked in getting him a respectable debut. What albums will you be buying?

The Return of Sade!

Words cannot begin to describe my excitement! The incomparable Sade will return to the music scene next year after a 10 year hiatus. Sade is set to release her new album, "Soldier of Love" on 8 February 2010. The album follows her wildly successful "Lover's Rock" which was released in 2000. Listen to one of my favourite tracks from Sade below and peep the official album cover for "Soldier of Love" above and let me know what you think!

New Albums!

I received two new albums in the mail that I had preordered online. They are John Mayer's "Battle Studies" and Leona Lewis's "Echo". Have you purchased the albums? If so, what were your favourite tracks and what did you think about them?

Mariah Carey on GMTV!

Mariah Carey is in Europe currently promoting the release of her album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel". Watch the diva perform the second single from the album, "I Want To Know What Love Is" below and let me know what you think!

I have my doubts as to whether or not this was live. Tidbit: How random was it that no one clapped at the end?

Gaga on Leno!

The one and only Lady Gaga stopped by Jay Leno to perform her latest hit single, "Bad Romance". Peep the clip below and let me know what you think!

MJB: 'I Am' on Lopez!

Mary J Blige performed "I Am" from her upcoming album, "Stronger With Each Tear" on the George Lopez Show. Peep her performance below and let me know what you think!

Again, this was another solid performance from the Queen. Kudos to Mary's promo team for switching up their strategy and getting their game on. A few weeks ago I really thought this project was going to be a flop, but after various appearances and performances I think the single could actually do pretty well for Mary. Do you like the single? Tidbit: A video for the single will be shot by Anthony Mandler and should debut soon!

Nov 24, 2009

AMAs: Adam Lambert!

American Idol runner-up performed "For Your Entertainment" at the AMAs. Peep his performance below and let me know what you think!

While the theatrics were certainly of Lambert's standards, I can't say the vocals were. I was expecting a bit more from him to be honest. What did you think of the performance?

AMAs: Timbaland!

Timbaland, SoShy and Nelly Furtado performed "Morning After Dark" at the AMAs. Peep the performance below and let me know what you think!

Tidbit: I was more excited to see Nelly on stage than any of the others. She's looking good, I think it's time for some new material from her.

AMAs: Alicia Keys!

Alicia Keys performed "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" at the AMAs. Watch it below and let me know what you think!

AMAs: Jennifer Lopez!

Jennifer Lopez performed her new single, "Louboutins" at the AMAs. Peep her performance below and let me know what you think! Tidbit: Although this was lipped, it wasn't a terrible performance, excluding the fall just before her solo dance breakdown.

AMAs: Lady Gaga!

Lady Gaga performed "Bad Romance" and "Speechless" at the 2009 AMAs. Peep her performance below and let me know what you think!

AMAs: Rihanna!

Rihanna performed "Wait Your Turn" and "Hard" at the AMAs. Watch her performance below and let me know what you think!

After a very successful year on the charts, The Black Eyed Peas performed at this year's American Music Awards. Peep them performing "Meet Me Halfway" and "Boom Boom Pow" below and let me know what you think!

AMAs: Jay-Z & Alicia Keys!

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys teamed up again at the AMAs to perform their hit, "Empire State of Mind". To put it simply, this performance was incredible!

AMAs: Kelly Clarkson!

American Idol, Kelly Clarkson performed "Already Gone" at the 2009 AMAs. Watch her performance below and let me know what you think!

While it was a good vocal showcasing from Clarkson, there was really nothing special about this performance. She really didn't look all that good either.

AMAs: Shakira!

Shakira performed her latest single, "Give It Up To Me" at the AMAs. The song does nothing for me, but the performance was okay. Tidbit: There were a few too many dancers!

AMAs: Janet Jackson!

Janet Jackson performed a melody of hits at the 2009 American Music Awards. Peep her performance below and let me know what you think!

Nov 22, 2009

Brandy: Bathroom Concert!

Nov 21, 2009

Solange: "Stillness Is The Move"!

Solange Knowles has been hard at work on her follow up album to "Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams". She recently covered a song by Dirty Projectors, "Stillness Is The Move". Listen to the original and Solange's version below and let me know what you think!

I knew Solange could sing, but the vocals on this track are amazing! It really showcases her range and her raw talent. This has me excited for some new Solange material! Do you like the cover or the original better?

Toni Braxton: 'Yesterday' video premiere!

The undeniably talented Toni Braxton makes her way back onto the music scene with "Yesterday", the first single off her upcoming album. The video featuring Trey Songz has premiered. Peep it below and let me know what you think!

While not entirely what I was expecting, this is a nice clip to accompany the song. Toni is looking incredible and is undoubtably one of the best looking artists in the industry. Let's hope that this sparks further interest in the song and propels it up the charts. Tidbit: Brooke Hogan's appearance was rather random, but I guess she needs the promo.

Lola: 'Fresh Out The Oven' video premiere!

Jennifer Lopez returns as her alter ego, Lola in the music video for her buzz single, "Fresh Out The Oven" featuring Pitbull. Peep the clip below and let me know what you think!

Toni Braxton Update!

One of my favourite artists, Toni Braxton is getting ready to release the follow-up album to her critically acclaimed 2005 offering "Libra". The album is set for release on 8 February 2010 and is preceded by the first single, "Yesterday". Braxton recently shot the video with labelmate Trey Songz who appears on the remix to the track. The video will premiere today on The Wendy Williams Show. In related news, another track, "Rewind" has leaked from the project as well as an untagged version of the previously leaked, "Woman". Take a listen to both tracks below and let me know what you think!

Both these tracks are incredible! Toni is an artist who I really respect and admire for constantly delivering tracks that are not only of vocal perfection but that are also entirely suited to her style. The great thing about her music is that although it is commercial in a sense, it stills has elements of REAL music which you could listen to over and over again. I really can't wait to see the video for "Yesterday" and hear the album in its entirety. Roll on February!

Nov 20, 2009

Mariah Carey on Alan Carr!

Mariah Carey has been in the UK promoting her album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel". Peep her appearance on the Alan Carr Show below where she gave a brief interview and performed "I Want To Know What Love Is".

That was a great performance and a refreshing interview! It's nice to see the laid back side of Mariah.

J'Lo preps 'Love?', 'Louboutins' leaks!

Jennifer Lopez is getting ready to return to the music scene with her new album, "Love?" which will hit stores on 25 January. The album is preceded by the first single, "Louboutins" which was produced and written by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream. Lopez will perform the track at this year's American Music Awards which take place on Sunday. Listen to the single below and let me know what you think!

How underwhelming. I was quite excited to hear new music from Jennifer but this has just erased my anticipation. "Fresh Out The Oven" while not a hit by any means, would have been a far better single choice than this. Do you think this will put her back on music's A-list?

Nov 19, 2009

Overlooked: MJB's 'I Am'!

I posted the latest single from Mary J. Blige's upcoming project, "Stronger With Each Tear" a while back. After listening to the track, "I Am" I'm hooked! I think I previously overlooked it because of my lack of excitement with the other two singles. Listen to the reposted track produced by Stargate and written by Johnta Austin here and let me know what you think!

Tidbit: Watch Mary perform "I Can See In Colour" here, it's a great performance!

Fresh Find: Ben's Brother!

After picking up a copy of Joss Stone's new album, "Colour Me Free" I came across a collaboration "Stalemate" with Jamie Hartman which I immediately liked. Hartman is part of Ben's Brother, a band from the UK who has just released their sophomore album, "Battling Giants". Much to my excitement, "Stalemate" was also recorded with Anastacia and is featured on the album as a bonus track. Take a listen to both versions below as well a promo from the album and let me know what you think!

Alicia Keys - Element of Freedom Tracklisting!

A rumoured tracklisting has been floating around the web for Alicia Keys's upcoming album, "The Element of Freedom". Peep it below and let me know what you think!

1. The Element Of Freedom (Intro)
2. Love Is Blind
3. Doesn’t Mean Anything
4. Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart
5. Wait Til They See My Smile
6. That’s How Strong My Love Is
7. Unthinkable (
I’m Ready)
8. Love Is My Disease
9. Like The Sea
10. Put It In A Love Song
feat. Beyonce Knowles
11. This Bed
12. Distance And Time
13. How It Feels To Fly
14. Empire State Of Mind (
Part II)
*Source: Urban Bridgez

Interestingly enough, Beyonce is the only feature on the album. It seems like Jay-Z won't be appearing on "Empire State of Mind (Part 2)" either. I was hoping for a John Mayer addition too, I really liked "Lesson Learned" from "As I Am" and I think they work well together because they both have an incredible understanding of music. Anyway, I'll still be picking up my copy on 15 December, will you?

Beyonce feat. Lady Gaga: Video Phone premiere!

The highly anticipated video for the eighth single, "Video Phone" off Beyonce's "I Am..." album has premiered! The track features pop star Lady Gaga and was directed by Hype Williams. Peep the clip below and let me know what you think!
Props to Hype for doing what he does best. I'm a Beyonce fan but for lack of a better word, this is WHACK! I think this track will pretty much go unnoticed. The Gaga addition does add a bit more dimension to it but it really isn't enough to save what was already a bad single choice to begin with. Again, "Radio" would've been a far better single choice in my opinion.

Rihanna does London!

Rihanna has been out and about promoting her upcoming album "R-Rated" due for release next week. Peep the Barbados star performing two tracks from the album below at the O2 arena in London this week and let me know what you think!

Leona Lewis preps 'Outta My Head'!

The second single from Leona Lewis's sophomore album, "Echo" has been announced as the Max Martin produced "Outta My Head". Listen to the track below and let me know what you think!

While I like this track, and I think it has potential, again I'm not too sure about how it will perform on the charts. Either way, the video should be a good watch. I'd like to see "Can't Breathe" and "I Got You" being considered as future singles. What are you favourites from the album?

Janet Jackson: Behind the Scenes!

Janet Jackson has been prepping a compilations album titled "Number Ones" which will be released on 17 November. A video for the lead single from the project, "Make Me" has been shot by Robert Hales (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake). Peep a behind the scenes clip below of the video shoot and let me know what you think!

Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart Video!

The video for the second single, "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" off Alicia Keys's upcoming album, "The Element of Freedom" has debuted. Peep the Syndrome (Eminem, Black Eyed Peas) clip below and let me know what you think!

With Keys as a superhero, the concept is certainly interesting. I'm still not a fan of the clip, I find the split screens a bit distracting and the resurrection of the dog at 1:18 was a bit over the top. I'm also not feeling the song. I don't think this is going to chart much higher than her current single, "Doesn't Mean Anything" which has only reached #60 on the Billboard Hot 100. Maybe she'll be third time lucky.

Video Preview: Timbaland - Morning After Dark!

Super-producer Timbaland is getting ready to release the follow up album to 2007's "Shock Value". The lead single, "Morning After Dark" featuring SoShy was released a while ago and hasn't had very good reviews. Anyway, a video for the single has been shot by Paul "Coy" Allen and you can now preview a viral for the video below. Let me know what you think!

Nov 16, 2009

Mariah Carey: "H.A.T.E.U." Live on Letterman!

Mariah Carey is back on the promotional rounds for "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel". She recently visited David Letterman where she performed the latest single from the album, "H.A.T.E.U.". Peep the performance below and let me know what you think.

Mariah's either getting very good at lip-synching or she got her vocal rest the night before. What a great performance, besides the little slip up at 2:25 - 2:27 I would probably say this is her best live rendition of the song yet. I also wouldn't hesitate in saying that this performance is probably 100% live (yes, I don't think the whistles were lipped). Again, props to the background singers (Trey Lorenz, Mary Ann Tatum and the other one, haha). Tidbit: I forgot about the diamond encrusted microphone and stand, it's so OTT but so Mariah!

Bouncy & Gaga shoot Video Phone!

Pictures from the set of Beyonce's "Video Phone" have hit the net. The song was remixed to include pop sensation Lady Gaga's vocals and she also makes an appearance in the video. Peep the Hype Williams directed clip below and let me know what you think!
The video looks like it'll be a winner, as have most of the videos from her "I Am..." project. The song on the other hand is another story. I don't think the video will be enough to save it and propel it to the top of any chart. Their other collab, "Telephone" is much better and I'm glad that'll be getting the single treatment. It has great potenetial and I think that it could do really well for both artists. Either way, I'm excited to see the video and hopefully it'll premiere soon.

Gossip Girl welcomes Gaga!

Lady Gaga appears in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl to perform her latest hit, "Bad Romance". A promo clip for her appearance has been released. Peep it below and let me know what you think!

Video Premiere: Chris Brown - Crawl!

Chris Brown stopped by The Wendy Williams show to premiere the video for "Crawl", the second single off his upcoming album, "Graffiti". Peep the Joseph Kahn directed clip below and let me know what you think!

I like this song, and the video is a nice accompaniment. However, I am still in doubt about whether Chris was ready to reenter the music scene. I do think he should've given it a bit more time. His confidence has definitely taken a knock and to me it's affecting his performance, evident in this video. Tidbit: The glasses are really something that could've been left in the props room!

Video Premiere: Rihanna - Russian Roulette!

The video for Rihanna's lead single, "Russian Roulette" from her upcoming album, "R-Rated" has premiered. Peep the Anthony Mandler directed clip below and let me know what you think!

Mariah Carey: I Want To Know What Love Is Video!

The video for Mariah Carey's second single, "I Want To Know What Love Is" from her latest studio album, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" has finally debuted. Peep the Hype Williams directed clip below and let me know what you think!

This brings the YAWNS. I was expecting much more than a CGI performance clip from a Carey/Hype video collab. Let's hope the Brett Ratner directed clip for "H.A.T.E.U." premieres soon and is a bit more exciting than this one.

Nov 13, 2009

Robin Thicke: Sex Therapy Album Cover!

The official cover for Robin Thicke's upcoming studio album, "Sex Therapy" has been released. Peep the cover above and let me know what you think!

Mimi: I Want To Know What Love Is!

Mariah Carey has been doing the promo rounds for "Memoirs" in Europe. Peep her performance of the second single, "I Want To Know What Love Is" on X-Factor Italy below and let me know what you think!

The verses were okay, choruses average at best but the bridge and final buildup were great. Mariah should count her lucky stars that she has Mary Ann and Trey as background singers, they truly bring life to her substandard performances. Tidbit: Bringing out the choir is a bit OTT! Also, a few people reported that the whistle notes at the end were lipped, after taking a close listen there are some subtle differences in those notes (see the Oprah performance).

New Artist: Justin Bieber!

I know I'm quite late on this one, but it took a while for him to win me over, and I'll admit he finally did. Justin Bieber is the newest teen sensation. At the age of only fifteen, the young star has been mentored by R&B singer Usher and signed to Island Records. Next week he releases his debut album, "My World" which is preceded by the singles "One Time" and "One Less Lonely Girl", both of which have reached numbers 20 and 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively.

Peep the official album cover above, the music videos for "One Time" and "One Less Lonely Girl" as well as a cute reenactment of his meeting with Beyonce below.

John Mayer: Battle Studies Promo!

The multitalented John Mayer will release his latest studio offering "Battle Studies' on 17 November. The album is preceded by the single, "Who Says" which has already debuted at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mayer sat down with Billboard Magazine to speak about the upcoming project and his growth as an artist over the past few years. Peep the segment below and let me know what you think!

The album has already leaked and much to my own surprise, I haven't downloaded it yet. With Mayer being one of the few male artists that I actually enjoy listening, I have actually pre-ordered the album and I'm expecting my copy next week sometime. It should be one of the few albums that you are able to listen to from start to finish, but I'll let you know! In the meantime, what do you think of the lead single, "Who Says"?

P!nk: I Don't Believe You Video!

The video for the sixth worldwide single, "I Don't Believe You" from P!nk's fifth studio album, "Funhouse" has premiered. Peep the Sophie Miller directed clip below and let me know what you think!

P!nk is such a solid artist. She continuously brings her A-game and has really matured as a songwriter, singer and performer. With a #1 hit under her belt ("So What") she has become one of the industry's leading talents and I think she can now start exercising some creative freedom in terms of what she brings to the scene on her next album. Do you like the video?

New Music: Beyonce & Lady GaGa - Video Phone Remix!

Beyonce and Lady GaGa team up again for the remix to the eighth single to be released from "I Am... Sasha Fierce", "Video Phone". Listen to the track below and let me know what you think!

Preview: Rihanna's "R-Rated"

Thirty second snippets of Rihanna's upcoming album, "R-Rated" have been released. Listen to the previews below and let me know what you think!

New Music: Lady GaGa & Beyonce - Telephone!

Two of the biggest female singers in the industry, Lady GaGa and Beyonce team up for "Telephone", the second single to be lifted off GaGa's "The Fame Monster". Listen to the track below and let me know what you think!

Tidbit: GaGa is also featured on Beyonce's "Video Phone". Videos for both singles will debut soon!

New Music: Mariah Carey - 100%!

After a snippet of Mariah Carey's "100 %" leaked a few months ago I was quite excited to hear the full version of the track. The track was meant to serve as the official soundtrack for "Precious", a movie Carey stars in. However, it was replaced with Mary J. Blige's "I Can See In Colour". Take a listen to "100%" below and let me know what you think!

I'm really enjoying this track. It's great to see another JD and MC collaboration as I definitely missed their chemistry on her latest studio album. The other great thing about this track is the varied lyrical content, besides "Hero" there are few 'inspirational' Carey songs which don't deal with love. Tidbit: Mariah takes us to church with her vocal runs at around 3:42, I'd love to see this live!

Nov 12, 2009

Leona Lewis: Can't Breathe!

I've been listening to a few tracks from Leona Lewis's sophomore album, "Echo". I thought I would share with you the vocal perfection I found on "Can't Breathe", a track produced by the great Harvey Mason Jr.. Take a listen to the track below and let me know what you think!

This, for me, is true vocal heaven! I have no idea who arranged these vocals but the pitch, backgrounds and harmonies are on FIRE. The track displays her amazing range and I've fallen in love with the breakdown around 3:08 ("I'm coming up, coming up for breath"). Tidbit: Some of these notes are reminiscent of Mariah's early days, MC needs to watch her back.

Amerie does Kimmel, album tanks!

R&B starlet, Amerie has been out and about promoting her fourth studio album, "In Love & War". The album, released 3 November features production from Sean Garret, Bryan-Michael Cox, Rico Love and Jim Jonson and is preceded by the lead single, "Heard 'Em All". Peep Amerie performing the single on Jimmy Kimmel below and let me know what you think!

In related news, first week album sales for the project are in. With a mere 12 500 copies sold, they aren't looking too good. I haven't listened to the material but it surely can't be that bad. This puts her on par with the likes of Michelle Williams whose third album, "Unexpected" debuted with sales of only 14 000 copies (a great album I must add).

Nov 11, 2009

David Guetta: One Love Video!

The video for the title track from David Guetta's album, "One Love" has surfaced. The single features UK singer Estelle and serves as the third from the album, following "When Love Takes Over" featuring Kelly Rowland and "Sexy Bitch" featuring Akon. Watch the video below and let me know what you think!

New Music: MJB - I Am!

Peep the official single cover for "Hard" above. The song will serve as the second single from Rihanna's upcoming album, "R-Rated" and features Young Jeezy.

Whitney to grace the AMA stage!

Whitney Houston has been added to the lineup for the 2009 American Music Awards which will air on 22 November. This gives me even more reason to tune in come 22 November.

Lady Gaga: Bad Romance Video!

The incredible new video for Lady GaGa's latest single, "Bad Romance" has debuted. Peep the Francis Lawrence directed clip below and let me know what you think!

GaGa is undoubtedly one of the 'hottest chicks in the game' right now. With a video like this, promoting a song like "Bad Romance" there's no reason why this shouldn't be another #1 for her.
